Sao Satsugawa's work is centered on painting, but in recent years she has broadened her range of expression to include embroidery, installations of perler beads, and three-dimensional works. She continues to work on the theme of "human emotions as seen through her own experience," expressing life-sized emotions that arise from her real life as a mother of two, using handicrafts as materials reminiscent of home and everyday life.

She expands her somewhat naïve point of view, which is unique to women, to universal issues such as the existence of others and the boundaries between oneself and others.

Statement

There are a great number of emotions that we discard in the daily activities of life. Among them are insignificant, trivial curses and strong prayers that we quietly keep hidden. I hope that my works will reach those who have feelings in their hearts that they have not yet discarded.
